Deleting Things

You can remove posts that you and your friends post on your timeline. To remove a post from your timeline:
  1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Find the post and click in the top right.
  3. Select Delete post or Hide from profile from the dropdown menu.
    • Hide from profile: Removes the post from your timeline, not Facebook.
    • Delete post: Removes the post from Facebook entirely. Keep in mind that you can only delete posts that you have posted.
If you don't want something you're tagged in to appear on your timeline, you'll need to remove the tag. When you remove a tag, the post will no longer appear on your timeline. However, that post is still visible to the audience it's shared with in other places on Facebook, such as News Feed and search.

To delete your comment below a post:
  1. Click next to the comment you'd like to delete.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Click Delete.
To edit your comment below a post:
  1. Click next to the comment you'd like to edit.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Make your changes and then press Enter or Return to save, or Esc to cancel.
To unfriend someone:
  1. Go to that person's profile by typing their name into the search bar at the top of Facebook.
  2. Click at the top of their profile.
  3. Click Unfriend, then Confirm.
Note: If you can't find the person you want to unfriend, their account may be deactivated.
To unfriend someone who has deactivated their Facebook account:
  1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Click Friends.
  3. Search for the person’s name.
  4. Click more, then select Unfriend.
The person you unfriended won't be notified. If you don't want someone to see your profile, add you as a friend or send you a message, you can block them.
Note: If you unfriend someone, you'll also be removed from that person's friends list. If you want to be friends with this person again, you'll need to add them as a friend again.
You can only delete photos that you've uploaded to Facebook. Keep in mind that once a photo is deleted, you won't be able to get it back.
To remove your photo from Facebook:
  1. Go to the photo you'd like to delete.
  2. Click the photo to open it.
  3. Click and select Delete Photo.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.
Note: If you want someone else's photo removed from Facebook, ask the person who posted it to take it down. You can also remove a tag from a photo you're tagged in.

To delete a conversation from Facebook:
  1. In the top right of your Facebook account, click messenger.
  2. Click the conversation you want to delete.
  3. At the top of the chat, click .
  4. Click Delete Chat and then click Delete Chat.
Keep in mind that deleting a conversation from your Chats list won't delete it from your friend's Chats list.

No. Deleting a message permanently removes it from your Chat list. Instead, you can archive a message to hide it from your Chat list.
To remove an app or game you've added:
  1. Click account in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  3. In the left menu, click Apps and Websites.
  4. Go to the app or website you want to remove, then next to the name of the app or website, click Remove.
  5. You may select these options:
    • Delete posts, videos or events [app or website] posted on your timeline.
    • Allow Facebook to notify [app or website] that your login connection was removed. They may offer you another way to log in.
  6. Click Remove again to confirm.
If you connected accounts with an app or website such as a loyalty program or news subscription, you can choose to remove each individual connection. Click Remove next to the connected account to remove it.
Once you’ve removed the app or game, it should no longer post to your timeline. If you still see a past post, you can remove it.
Note: The app or game may have stored info from when you were using it, but you can contact the developer to ask that they delete any info they may still have.
You can add or remove an email address from your account in your settings.
To add an email address:
  1. Click account in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  3. Click Contact in the General tab.
  4. Click Add another email or mobile number, then enter your email and click Add.
  5. You may be asked to re-enter your Facebook password. Enter your password and click Submit, then Close.
  6. When you add an email address to your account, we'll send a confirmation email to your new email address. Click the link in your email to confirm that you want this email added to your Facebook account.
If the link in your email doesn't work:
  1. Copy the confirmation code we sent in your email.
  2. In the Contact section of your settings, click Confirm.
  3. Paste in your code and click Okay.
To remove an email address:
  1. Click account in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  3. Click Contact in the General tab.
  4. Click Remove next to the email you'd like to remove.
  5. You may need to refresh the page to see your change.
